Tamid Photo Essay in Lego® #2

The Shot

Knock Knock

The Memuneh, along with Yonasan the Levi, are admitted through a small door to the side of the Nitzotz Gate.

The Story

You are here
The Azarah was elevated above the floor of the Har Habayis and large flights of steps connected these two areas in front of the gates. The gates themselves were 10 amos wide and 20 amos tall (15x30 feet) and were closed off by double doors. These gates were locked each night and opened in the morning. When the Memuneh arrived to begin the morning routine, however, the gates were still locked and so he was admitted through a smaller door by one of the Kohen guards posted on the balcony above this gate.

The Setup

This shot is modeled and rendered in Bricklink Studio with depth of field added in Photoshop (read more about this process in my introduction). There are only a few small lights in Luminous Soft Amber to punctuate the darkness, while inside the doorway I put a generous amount of Luminous Yellow to create a warm and inviting feel. It is very difficult to tell under the dim conditions of the shot that the gate is modeled in Chrome Gold, but I didn't bother accenting this here since it is not the main focus of this scene. This color does much better under brighter lighting, as you can see in the setup shot.
