Tamid Photo Essay in Lego® #14

 The Shot

Fill 'er Up

Yonasan brings the Tamid lamb a drink of water.

The Story

You are here
The Chamber of the Goolah stood near the northeastern corner of the Azarah. A bucket was lowered via a pulley into a cistern to bring up sweet, clean water which the Kohanim would pour into a basin (called a "goolah") and then use for drinking and cooking. The Tamid lamb was given a drink of water from a golden cup right before it was slaughtered, and although the sources do not state definitively that the water for this purpose was taken from the Chamber of the Goolah, it is a likely candidate. Another possibility is to scoop up water from the channel of water that ran through the Azarah.

The Setup

This shot is modeled and rendered in Bricklink Studio with depth of field added in Photoshop (read more about this process in my introduction). The default light is set to zero and the interior of the room is lit with a lamp in Luminous Soft Amber plus a ceiling plate in the same color to add more light. A plate in Luminous Blue provides some soft sky color through the door and window.

A Pirate Hook Hand inserted into a 1x1 wall brick with a side stud makes a finely detailed hook for hanging extra rope from the pulley (although I have used Photoshop to add rope to a shot, I did not bother doing that here). The basin on the right wall is built with SNOT using plates of Trans-Medium Blue for the water. The water came out a bit too dark for my liking — perhaps it could be improved with some Luminous White or Blue to light it from beneath.

  1. Maybe I missed it before. Is the drain in the floor for water? Where does it drain to?

    1. Yes it is. In this chamber in particular there would be a lot of water spilling on the floor and so I wanted to provide a place for it to drain. Also they probably did sponja. Supposing this to be a fair assumption, we would also assume the presence of a system of pipes that would carry this water to the southern side of the Courtyard where it would enter the main drainage pipes that led out to the Kidron Valley.
